Part 15- cliche and illogical 2/5

Maria (MariMooX) and I have such a long list. There are a few things I didn't quite get because she worded them weird. I also didn't want to type a lot because of my finger status... Anyway, the list has been extended to 60 different cliches. If you have any ideas, I'll see if it's not already on our list.
14) Forever alone Best friend- cliché
I don’t know what this is about because Maria suggested it. I think she meant that someone never gets a girl unless the fic is about them. Onew for example will never get a date because he is with Chicken. (OnewxChicken is #40.)
15) Best Friend gets an important romance too- cliché
There are often those fics where the author decides that everyone should get a happy ending. It’ll be a Jonghyun vs Minho fic and Jonghyun gets the girl, but Minho gets another girl because he is just that awesome. Quite honestly, if the guy that liked me didn’t get me and started dating another girl right after he lost, I would think he didn’t really like me. And life is a not filled with happy endings. To pair up all the characters is forcing the readers to read about someone they didn’t really care for.
Those apply fics are the same way. I have yet to find an apply fic I have actually enjoyed. First of all, the girl is fit to portray a real person and not a character. (The idols are characters because it is a FANfic.) I don’t know this person, I don’t care, and I won’t read. In many cases the person that is in the fic is glorified and portrayed almost perfectly. HEY, HOW ABOUT WHEN YOU APPLY FOR A FIC YOU MENTION YOU ARE FAT, HAVE ACNE, AND ARE STUPID? No? Uninteresting and cliché.
Coupling everyone either by another idol, by OCs, or by one of the readers, they are all quite honestly a little boring. It is unimportant. All the reader usually cares about is the main protagonist and maybe their other biases.
16) Drugs (including smoking)- cliché
First let us list a bunch of drugs- marijuana, Methamphetamine, ecstasy, Heroin, over the counter meds, morphine, opium, cocaine, crack, LSD, inhalants, PCP, tobacco, steroids…
I think that is enough drugs.
A lot of these are simply a stress relevant like weed and tobacco. Others are for getting super high and sexually aroused like morphine, opium, Heroin, Ecstasy, and cocaine, and often weed as well.
Reading about drugs… It is very real, I know so many people that have done or doing drugs. (They’re idiots.) But you know that if you abuse these too much YOU WILL DIE. Like meth, it stimulates the endorphin in the brain and releases it and after awhile you die.
Just thought I’d point that out.
You will die.
Now where are these people getting their drugs? From a dealer right? They pay hundreds for their drugs? Don’t share? They keep to themselves, don’t let anyone know.
Where are they doing these drugs, and why have they not been caught yet?
I’m just going to tell some stories and leave it open for interpretation. Consider me as the female lead in the story.
A senior entered class after just being in the bathroom for maybe twenty minutes. I rushed to his seat and excitedly told why he was in there for so long. No, he was not taking a dump.
“Some guy walked in and I rushed into a stall and then he pulled out a flask and a lighter and lit the thing up and starting inhaling it. I couldn’t get out!” In a bathroom stall in the school during the last period of the day.
We were all at lunch when she revealed that she had done weed again after being clean for a year. At her friend’s house.
Another friend dumped her boyfriend because he always came to school high. He smoked, and he gave weed to other people. He was also a man-whore.
I was walking home with a guy friend and some upperclassmen started to sell drugs to us. “Hey, you want some ecstasy? Heroin?” During this entire moment of us ignoring them and them peddling drugs, they were smoking and high!
A girl in the lunch line told a guy to go over to a friend’s house because she had a surprise for him. In the end it was revealed that she “had just gotten out of rehab and didn’t need it anymore.” She was maybe seventeen and had already been to rehab. Sad to say she fit the stereotype of dyed hair (pink and blond) and piercings in her ears and lips.
I wanted to burn a photo for dramatic effect and I asked a druggie to use his lighter. The pot head actually had it in school.
These are all stories from school.
What I am saying is, while drugs being used often in stories can be a little annoying, the idea is realistic, but I have only read a handful of fics that portray drug abuse correctly. I am saying this from the bottom of my heart and with complete sincerity. Most authors are not good enough to write a correct drug included fic.
I’ve never done drugs, so I can’t really say what it looks or feels like, but I will recognize a well written fic about them. Otherwise, I feel that drugs are cliché.
17) Bars, drinking, one night stands, sexy dancing- Cliche
There is always drinking at parties and at the bar. People always get drunk, have sex, or abuse someone, or make out, or throw up, or rape, or drink more, or do drugs.
Always. This is simply stupid. I don't live this lifestyle, I don't want to read about millions of teens and young adults living this way.
Cliche, never do it. Drinking is overdone.
The only time I ever want to see drinking is during depression. I hope it leads to suicide. (#37)
18) Early/arranged marriages- CLICHÉ and illogical
Unless the family is an extremely traditional family, sex should not lead to marriage. Unless the family is royalty, marriage should not be arranged to tie families together. Simple enough, arranged marriages are illogical and don’t fit in with this continuously modernizing world. They don’t.
Early marriages, like before in the early 20s, I always hate. I assume they will end with divorce because quite honestly most of the characters act too immature at this age and in the fic to really handle marriage.
Then they have children at this time? Really? They are barely adults themselves, don’t give them a child!
Hands down, marriages are one of the most cliché things to read in a fic.
No, No, No, No, No!
19) Joining an idol group- cliche and illogical
We go over idol groups again, Da?
Idols are always watched. I can't understand how people forget that. They can't always get drunk. They don't have vacations every other day. They can't schedule things then cancel them in a second. Idols have just as many anti's as they do normal fans. They are also very diverse people, so they don't all act like whores. *shrugs shoulders at breaking the news.
How to be an idol? Even if you dance awesomely and got scouted, there is still a period of at least two years of training. Usually idols debut between 16 and 20. Exceptions being most maknae like Dongho of U-KISS, Changmin of DBSK, Taemin of SHINee, and Minzy of 2NE1 debuting at 14-15ish, the elder members of Super Junior in their early twenties, and that new girl group of twelve year olds.
Most idols audition, get scouted, win a contest, having a company like a viral video, or something to that affect. So we’ve established how to join a company?
During the training years the trainee will practice dancing and singing, but also how to present themselves in front of an audience and on talk shows or radio shows. Most likely they will also be extras in music videos for other groups in the same company or in a company production. (Like Jonghyun being in the Super Junior movie, Attack on the Pin-Up boys.) Also, they will make guest appearances on shows, or be in the audience. At the same time they will help their sunbae with their work, keep their looks in check, not cause any scandals, and still do their basic vocal and dancing training.
Those were the trainee years.
Maybe after 2-3 years they will debut, if the company decided that the group is fit to move on, if a group is even created! Joining a company does not automatically put you in a group. Some people get to that level, yes, they usually won a contest, but those that audition have to suffer. (If you audition to meet your favorite idol they often cut you before you can move on and make an impression. You have to be series about being an idol to make it.)
Now the debut time. A song is given, practiced, remixed, choreographed, practiced, practiced, and practiced! If they do well, then the group usually releases a single with a decent music video. Then promotions, promotions, promotions, and more promotions. Music Bank, Inkigayo, Mnet, radio shows, talk shows, photo shoots, variety/game shows, public concerts. Everything has to be planned and organized just so there aren’t conflicting events. It doesn’t allow flaws or sicknesses.
So being an idol is very hard work, yes? What happened to those days off I am always reading about? Canceled plans because of an upset member? Eating out, sleeping often, skipping practice, drinking? Did I crush your dream of being an idol? You are reconsidering writing that fic about being the girl version of SHINee?
Big Bang → 2NE1
SHINee → f(x)
Super Junior → SNSD
So there is no need to create a girl version of these groups. They already exist, or the idea is realistically not going to happen.
DBSK → ?
2PM → ? (Wonder Girls?)
B2ST → ?
MBLAQ → ? (Miss A?)
And what is this thing where the girl joins the guy group? Is that even an option? Only if this was Co-Ed School. Not going to happen. These fics about the girl replacing her brother, somebody has been watching too much You’re Beautiful. Immediate Debut? That will never happen!
20) Hello Baby- CLICHÉ
We get it, SHINee was really cute with Yoogeun. It brought out the best in each member. We realize we can’t trust Onew with children, Taemin simply can’t control them, Jonghyun is a bad influence (and too short to play the tunnel game), Key is a diva mother, and Minho is too hard on himself as an awesome dad.
Overdone.
Your child was not the one used in Hello Baby. Don’t try and alter the reality.
You are not an assistant on the show. That would interfere with production.
You didn’t find Yoogeun on the street and take him back to SHINee.
You do not know SHINee.
Hello Baby is Cliché.
21) Getting expelled/suspended from school- cliché
No, no, no, no. I never read a legitament reason for getting kicked out of school. Or when I do see a reason, they don’t get in trouble.Skipping gets you kicked out. Getting caught doing drugs get you kicked out. Getting caught drinking/in a bar gets you kicked out. Having sex at school gets you kicked out. Talking back to the teacher gets you kicked out. Fights get you kicked out.
Let’s avoid getting kicked out of school.
It is too cliché.
Seriously. If your girl is a good girl, she shouldn’t be dating a guy that get’s kicked out of school. You whore.
22) New School- cliché and illogical
For some reason people like to start stories off at a new school, or at the beginning of the school year.
No.
That is cliché.
Not even for good reasons too! Oh I was bullied, let me start the new year fresh. Really? Your legacy will not follow you? You can change so suddenly the next year?
Your dad has a new job? Brilliant! Let me do the happy dance while you learn that the man whore of your new school is suddenly in love with you!
What makes you honestly think that being new will be enough of an attraction for anyone to take any interest in you? I swear to god, I don’t spare to glances at new students. WHO GIVES A FUCK? WHAT MAKES HER SO SPECIAL THAT EVERYTHING SUDDENLY CHANGES? The whole “Hello I am ____, please treat me well.” Holyshinki she is hot! Her blue eyes, her slim waist, her … (I feel lesbian when I type this.)
Do me a favor and write this plot. After keeping the dormant wild persona inside, the demon is unleashed and all hell breaks loose. The previous ----- they knew before is no more. This is revolution of a princess!
I’ve always had that plot in my head to some extent, (ahhhh, damn, backspaced with my hurt finger!!!!) but I never liked the plot enough to write. Why? Because even though it is the opposite of the cliché it is still cliché.
23) Random meeting at mall/street/store- cliché
Really? Love at first sight? Really? Really? Need I say more
Unentertaining cliché bitch ass plot.
24) Richness- cliché and illogical
Oh my god sun, this topic.
There are too many rich people! They all drive Porches or Corvettes or Lamborghinis. They own some hotel chain, advertisement company, business corp., I don’t know, something. The son will inherit the company and all the money. While still a student, the son is either really spoiled and treats people (fuck, I hit my finger again!) like trash, or he is the perfect rich boy. The girls are sluts and want to marry the rich guys for their money and get in the female lead’s way. (Using a girl from SNSD, or BoA as the rich girl is cliché) Arranged marriages. Money hungry.
Well, since most of our family friends are doctors or engineers, a lot of them are rich. They usually spend money on fairly large houses, lots of sports equipment like tennis and golf, the occasional small boat, pool tables, swimming pool, nice TVs, better than mine clothing. Things like that. They allow themselves to be spoiled a little more than most.
Hands down, rich people are the most cliché topic out there. It is simply overused. Overused, overdone,
Cliché
25) Annoying as hell antagonist girl- cliché
That bitch that always gets in the way of the female protagonist. “I will not let this slut get my man!” She is often portrayed as plastic, SNSD (or Seulgi), dumb, as slut, stupid, rich, and boy crazy
How demeaning to women everywhere. I have never met anyone like this. Granted, I’ve never been put on the spot in a love-triangle, but even with the experience my whore friends have, I’ve never met that completely obnoxious bitch yet. (Most bitches are the ones that act dramatic over little things and try and shove their shit down my throat.)
I suppose this demon woman exists somewhere, in the land of crazies.
For now, she shall exist in all the fanfics out there. She is there, that bitch you want to slap and say get a life. Jessica, Tiffany, Sunny, Yoona, Yuri, they are already taken and don’t like you. We’ve read enough stories of you being whores. Find yourself a real man, and not Jaejoong.
26) Total Slut- cliché and illogical
Why? Your girl is perfectly normal. She never experiments with sex, drugs, alcohol, partying, skipping school, even makeup. How does she suddenly turn into a total slut for this one guy? When guys get to touchy with me I punch them, not have sex with them. Matter of morals, I think not. She is a slut, easy, loose.
Don’t portray the girl as a whore! Yeah, a sweet angelic girl is boring, and a tomboy is a little cliché if not written well, but sluts are degrading! I think hooker, stripper, and prostitute. Even if she had sex once, she is easy.
In real life it doesn’t seem that bad because everyone is having sex, even the innocent type, but in a fic where all you have to characterize her is her actions, having sex turns her into a horny bitch. Remember the character, the context, and her reaction. I swear to god, she needs to think over this!
And making out! That counts to being a slut! Blow jobs, why? Fingering herself when she gets horny, slut. Not in a fic with young children reading. Inappropriate. The rated sign doesn’t make it right. In written form, that makes her a slut. Reality isn’t an issue here, this really shows the difference between what is accepted in reality and in fics.
Then when she gets dumped because her man whore boyfriend moved onto another slut after fucking her… I laugh at her misery actually.
27) Never having Homework- illogical
This object, torture device, evidently does not exist in fanfics. Why is that?
Because high school is a breeze, college doesn’t matter, and working is for squares!
Projects are clearly meant only to get together and have sex. End of story.
Add homework. This lack of after school torture annoys all that actually have some.
