Part 11- The rated war

60% give or take, of the featured stories are rated. 60%. Okay, so none of us have any issues with rated stories, in fact, we seem to only read them. We see that little rated sign and we click on the story. You perverts. No, it's okay, on some days, I do that too.
This is what I expect from those stories, shitty sensless plots that don't count as a fiction at all and smut that makes it a porn novel. That's what I expect. I tried reading one of the featured stories, and that is what I got. Most of the featured ones are like that. Mindless sex in every chapter and the guy acting all mean to the girl that is supposed to be the reader. "Oh oppa, I am so hot! Faster, harder! Ugh, mmph. Harder! Faster! Ugh! Ahh." And it happens every chapter and you just don't understand WHY. A lot of times it starts out as rape. RAPE. And then she starts to like the freaking RAPE and it isn't rape anymore. IT ISN'T RAPE ANYMORE. Or they are in love and they just mindlessly fuck all the time.
How many times have you seen that? EVERY TIME. Maybe not, but it is usually like that.
It'd be okay if there weren't so many like that. It can be done, you don't have to make it so plotless! AND IF YOU ARE, GIVE ME A WARNING SO I DON'T READ IT. "Oh Oppa." I seriously hate stories with girls like this. And most are like that. STUPID AIRHEAD GIRLS THAT ARE PERFECT IN EVERYWAY. I will never write like that because it pisses me off to high ends. WERE THESE GIRLS BORN TO BE SLUTS? WERE THEY?
I feel like the people writing them are the same age as me, because honestly, use a freaking thesaurus. Stop me please.
It's not only rated stories that are like that, but the rated ones stand out.
Why do people like the stupid rated stories than the decently written actual fanfics. If you want porn, go to a porn site. If you are going to write smut, add in a decent plot that makes it worth reading. If you intend only for smut, put a clear warning that the story is plotless. it should really be the other way. Having a story and then at some point putting in smut to match with the situation. Not smut and then a back story to make it interesting. No, NO, NO!
On the days when I haven't gotten any sleep and I want to find something to put me down faster, I'll read your smut because smut puts me to sleep in just a few minutes. No joke, unless there is a good plot, smut puts me down instantly. Am I the only one that smut tires out quickly? I feel like reading it lowers my intelligence and I need something to make my brain think again because the rated thing was too simple and plotless that everything about it is so obvious. It's like reading, "FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK." Over and over again.
It can be done with mass amounts of rated AND a wonderful plot. IT CAN BE DONE! I commend the people that can do it. Some people just don't know if they can or can't. I can pretty much tell at a glance if you can or can't. It is that easy and that is how far the standard are from one to the other. IT IS THAT EASY.
This is really why I hate the whole rated popularity. I don't write rated stories, I could but I don't. My stories are stalked by my parents so I have even cut down on my swearing in them. My blog is safe though. I have never had sex or had any sexual adventures, so I am not even that familiar with rated stuff other than... my lunch discussions with literal sluts. I'm not comfortable writing rated anyway. I can do gore and guts and crazy people, just not smut.
People respect me for that by not reading my story.
Okay, I know my story is boring, I even think so. Nothing happens in it, and I don't care. I never, NEVER, get comments yet I still update, and that is okay. I sort of just want to get the plot of my head and done with so I can rest and move on to fun and stupid cliche plots. I am perfectly fine with being on chapter 8 and only having a few views.
I was, until I was scrolling through topics and clicked on some random fics. This fic, on the foreword had more subscribers than all 4 of my fics combined and more views. I was like, "yeah, I am going to subscribe, I like this character, let me see what happens." It wasn't even a good foreword. It was just,
"There are going to be rated scenes. Summary- so and so is a new student in high school and someone has their eye out for them. Events lead to their depression and blah blah blah."
They had me hooked at the word depression, but the rated part is what makes most people subscribe. THE RATED SIGN. [H] It is a eye drawer. It practically says "Read Me" on it.
So I sort of got really pissed of with how that works, but I still subscribed. Don't blame me for going with the system, I like it when the main character has a really bad flaw like depression or something to that affect. My family life...
Another story I was reading was terribly written, to the point where i didn't want to read it but I did anyway because the plot was interesting. PLOTS ARE WHAT ME WANT TO READ THE STORY. The few rated scenes were okay, they weren't the main point. I was happy about that. The only thing that really got to me was that she asked her readers if they were okay with her writing a smut scene. Half of them said yes and half said no. She was like, "I am writing this for you guys, so I'll put some, but it won't be too bad. And I'll put warnings." Well good, you should always put warnings, but you shouldn't have to ask. By asking, i already know that you want to write it, so just write it! IT IS YOUR STORY, NOT THE READERS, WRITE WHAT YOU WANT! it's not a "if I write what they want then I will get more comments and more readers." You'll get more readers if you write properly. That was the only reason she didn't get readers, she had bad grammar. Smut is not needed, but if you want to write it, go ahead. If from the beginning you don't have any smut, like the first chapter, it won't be expected or completely forgotten about.
No seriously, for any story, any genre, stop asking what the readers want. Asking for their opinion on a certain is okay, and if you are considering changing something because YOU have an issue with it, that is fine. Asking if readers want smut is like asking "I'm going to write smut, I'm giving you a couple chapters heads up and time to express the fact that you don't want it so I can gage how hard core I want to make this because I'm sort of a huge pervert that has been wanting to write this from the start."
As a reviewer (that won't review stories due to the fact that I pretty much hate fanfics right now) I would fail most rated stories. There are a lot A LOT that I would give good reviews because their plots are good.↔hydraheiress Then there are those that would fail because they write smut because fanfics call for it.
NO, NO NO! Fanfics aren't supposed to be a "I wanna write rated, let me throw something together." It is, "I (genuinely) like writing and I like this celebrity so I want to write about them." Or in my case, "This fic is terrible, I can write this better." Which is how I got into the fanfic world. And yes, I wrote that rated story than them without ANY rated scenes and only 1 freaking kiss in the very last chapter. I think... it's been awhile.
Anyway, all you readers out there, give those unrated stories a try because they are more than often better than the rated stories. Not always, but usually.
And featured stories, almost always badly written. Not always because there are some good ones.  But give those unrated stories a chance! Enjoy the emotion and not the sound of sex!
I feel like such a freaking hypocrite because I read rated stories all the time! We're all perverts, what can I say. 60%, that sounds about right, and did check the last few pages of featured stories.
